
Google I/O 2025: Everything Announced at This Year’s Developer Conference
Proaitools – Google I/O 2025, Google’s annual developer conference, recently concluded at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, showcasing a plethora of product announcements spanning Android, Chrome, Google Search, YouTube, and their flagship AI chatbot, Gemini.
While a separate event, The Android Show, preceeded I/O with announcements of new features for finding lost devices, enhanced security tools, and the unveiling of Material 3 Expressive, the main event was packed with significant updates and reveals.
Here’s a comprehensive rundown of the key announcements from Google I/O 2025:
Gemini Ultra
Gemini Ultra, now available in the U.S., offers premium access to Google’s AI-powered apps and services. Priced at $249.99 per month, it includes Google’s Veo 3 video generator, the new Flow video editing app, and the upcoming Gemini 2.5 Pro Deep Think mode. Subscribers also benefit from higher limits in NotebookLM and Whisk, Gemini chatbot access in Chrome, agentic tools powered by Project Mariner, YouTube Premium, and 30TB of storage.
Deep Think in Gemini 2.5 Pro
Deep Think is an enhanced reasoning mode for Gemini 2.5 Pro, enabling the model to consider multiple answers before responding. This “enhanced” reasoning mode is currently available to trusted testers via the Gemini API, with wider rollout planned after safety evaluations.
Veo 3 Video-Generating AI Model
Veo 3 can generate sound effects, background noises, and even dialogue to accompany its videos. Google states that Veo 3 also improves upon its predecessor, Veo 2, in terms of the quality of footage it can generate, Google says.. Available to AI Ultra subscribers in the Gemini chatbot app, it can be prompted with text or images.
Imagen 4 AI Image Generator
Imagen 4 is Google’s latest AI image generator, promising faster performance than Imagen 3. Capable of rendering fine details and handling various styles, it supports aspect ratios and resolutions up to 2K. Veo 3 and Imagen 4 will both power Flow, Google’s AI-powered video tool.
Gemini App Updates
The Gemini apps boast over 400 million monthly active users. Gemini Live’s camera and screen-sharing capabilities, powered by Project Astra, are rolling out to all users on iOS and Android. Gemini Live will integrate with Google Maps, Calendar, and Tasks. The Deep Research feature is also being updated to allow users to upload private PDFs and images.
Stitch
Stitch is an AI-powered tool for designing web and mobile app front ends, generating UI elements and code from text or image prompts. It provides HTML and CSS markup for the designs it creates.
Project Mariner
Project Mariner, Google’s AI agent that browses and uses websites, has been significantly updated. It can now handle nearly a dozen tasks at a time, allowing users to purchase tickets or groceries online via chat.
Project Astra
Project Astra, Google’s low-latency, multimodal AI experience, will power new experiences in Search, Gemini, and third-party products. Google is developing Project Astra glasses with partners like Samsung and Warby Parker, though a launch date is yet to be announced.
AI Mode
AI Mode, the experimental Google Search feature allowing complex, multi-part questions via an AI interface, is rolling out to users in the U.S. It supports complex data queries and offers “try it on” options for apparel. Search Live, coming this summer, will enable real-time questions based on the phone’s camera view.
Beam 3D Teleconferencing
Beam (formerly Starline) uses advanced hardware and software to create a 3D teleconferencing experience. It uses a six-camera array and custom light field display to create a lifelike experience. When used with Google Meet, Beam offers real-time speech translation that preserves the speaker’s voice and expressions. Google Meet is also getting real-time speech translation independently.
More AI Updates
Additional updates include Gemini in Chrome, Gemma 3n (a model designed to run on phones and tablets), and new AI Workspace features for Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Vids. Video Overviews are coming to NotebookLM, and Google rolled out SynthID Detector and Lyria RealTime via an API.
Wear OS 6
Wear OS 6 features a unified font for a cleaner app look, with Pixel Watches getting dynamic theming. The new design reference platform aims to improve customization and seamless transitions.
Google Play
Google is enhancing the Play Store for Android developers with subscription tools, topic pages, audio samples, and a smoother checkout experience. Developers also gain testing and release pages, and tools to monitor app rollouts.
Android Studio
Android Studio is integrating new AI features, including “Journeys” and “Agent Mode,” coinciding with the release of Gemini 2.5 Pro. New AI capabilities will analyze app source code to identify crash causes and suggest fixes.
