Google Launches Stand-Alone NotebookLM Apps for Android and iOS
Google has officially released the stand-alone NotebookLM apps for Android and iOS, marking a significant step in making AI-powered note-taking accessible on the go. The announcement came just before Google I/O 2025, signaling the company’s continued investment in AI-driven productivity tools.
NotebookLM, initially launched in 2023, has been available exclusively on desktop. The new mobile apps bring the power of AI-assisted note-taking and research to smartphones and tablets, allowing users to leverage its capabilities from anywhere.
NotebookLM is designed to help users better understand complex information through features like smart summaries and the ability to ask questions about documents and other materials. This makes it easier to digest large amounts of information efficiently.
The mobile apps include access to Audio Overviews, AI-generated podcasts based on user-provided source materials. These overviews support background playback and offline access, enabling users to listen and learn even without an internet connection.
With the NotebookLM apps, users can create new notebooks and view existing ones. A convenient share feature allows users to add websites, PDFs, and YouTube videos as new sources directly from their devices. Sources already uploaded can also be viewed within each notebook.
The NotebookLM apps for Android and iOS also support light and dark modes, adapting to the user’s device settings for a comfortable viewing experience in any environment.
Given the timing of the launch, Google may share more details about the app and its future developments during the Google I/O keynote. The mobile apps mark a significant expansion of the NotebookLM platform, bringing AI-powered productivity to a wider audience.
