Here are all the iOS 26 rumors that came true at WWDC

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 unveiled iOS 26, and many pre-event rumors proved accurate. These included the operating system’s name, a dedicated gaming app, and a virtual health coach.

Here’s a summary of notable features rumored for iOS 26 that have materialized. For in-depth coverage, refer to our live coverage of the keynote.

New Name

Apple has rebranded its operating systems to align with the release year instead of version numbers. Therefore, iOS 19 is now iOS 26, mirroring car model year conventions. This change also affects iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26. Source

Major Design Overhaul

The most significant design update since iOS 7 features a complete visual overhaul, taking inspiration from Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Apple terms this interface “Liquid Glass.” This includes translucent navigation panels and circular app icons. The visionOS-inspired design is applied across Apple’s ecosystem, including CarPlay, aiming for a more cohesive user experience. Bloomberg Source

The Phone, Camera, and Safari apps have undergone significant changes. The Phone app allows users to merge favorite contacts, recent calls, and voicemails into one view. The Camera app and Safari feature visual updates, such as a transparent address bar for Safari. Source

Dedicated Gaming App

Apple introduced a new gaming app integrating Apple Arcade and the App Store’s game offerings, providing a central hub for achievements, leaderboards, and content. This follows the company’s acquisition of its first game studio, RAC7. DigitalTrends Source

Virtual Health Coach

Apple announced Workout Buddy, an AI feature functioning as a personal coach. This chatbot motivates users during workouts in real time and gathers data from the Health app, such as pace and miles logged. Bloomberg Source

Bloomberg previously indicated that the Health app might include a food-tracking feature for carbohydrate and caffeine intake, but Apple didn’t mention it at the event.

AI Translation for Messages

The Messages app features an Apple Intelligence-powered translation feature that automatically translates messages. Apple Intelligence also powers a new polling feature offering AI-generated poll suggestions. 9to5Mac reported both features.

Additionally, Messages now allows setting a background image, similar to WhatsApp and Instagram.

Preview App

Apple is bringing its Preview app from macOS to iPad users, allowing PDF annotation and editing. Bloomberg reported this.

What About Siri?

The keynote notably lacked the advanced Siri capabilities showcased in Apple’s 2024 presentation, which included a more context-aware assistant capable of gathering information and performing actions across different apps. The company stated that these new features are delayed.

Apple was also rumored to be announcing AI-powered battery management, which didn’t appear in the announcements. This feature was expected to analyze device usage and adjust settings to conserve battery life. The rumor of reverse wireless charging, enabling users to charge accessories from their iPhone, also didn’t materialize.

Another missing update was Genmoji, which would have allowed users to combine existing standard emojis.

This story was originally published June 3 and has been updated after rumors were confirmed.
