MIT Open Learning: A Computer Scientist’s Life-Changing Journey
Ana Trišović, now a research scientist at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), credits MIT OpenCourseWare with a transformative impact on her career. As a student in Serbia, she utilized MIT OpenCourseWare to study Data Analytics with Python, a subject not available at her school.
“That course changed my life,” Trišović stated. “Throughout my career, I have considered myself a Python coder, and MIT OpenCourseWare made it possible.” She emphasized the accessibility of world-class resources, allowing her to learn from MIT while in her hometown.
Trišović’s academic journey includes undergraduate degrees in computer science and mechanical engineering from Serbia, followed by studies at Cambridge University and CERN. Her work at CERN involved contributing to the Large Hadron Collider, and she completed her PhD in computer science in 2018. She also conducted research at the University of Chicago and Harvard University.
Currently, at MIT FutureTech, Trišović focuses on the democratization of AI and its implications for open-source AI and scientific advancement. Her research builds on her graduate work in computational social science, specifically the ‘science of science,’ addressing issues like research reproducibility.
Trišović encourages learners facing challenges with course materials to persevere and explore different resources within OpenCourseWare. She highlights the importance of persistence and self-investment for young individuals. Her current work is an interdisciplinary research group, draws on computer science, economics, and management to identify computing trends that create risk and opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
