Nothing Phone (3) to Hit US Markets: General Sale Confirmed
Smartphone startup Nothing is gearing up to launch its next flagship model, the Nothing Phone (3), for general sale in the United States. According to an exclusive report by TechCrunch, the Phone (3) will be available through Nothing’s website and Amazon, marking a significant step for the company’s presence in the U.S. market.
Nothing, founded in 2020 by Carl Pei (also co-founder of OnePlus), has released eight phones, but only the Phone (2) has been available for general sale in the U.S. Previously, interested buyers had to participate in a beta program with limited after-sales support. This new launch signifies a shift in Nothing’s strategy, committing to a more substantial presence in the American market.
Carl Pei, Nothing’s CEO, emphasized the importance of this launch. “We have always said we are building for the long term, and now we’re ready to take that next step in the U.S. Phone (3) is not just another launch. It is a signal of where we are as a company. The smartphone market in the U.S. is dominated by two players, but a lot of people are hungry for something different,” Pei told TechCrunch. He believes that Nothing’s focus on design and differentiation will appeal to consumers seeking alternatives to Apple and Samsung.
The Phone (3) will support AT&T and T-Mobile coverage with multi-band support for 4G and 5G, improving upon the limited carrier compatibility of previous models like Phone (2a), Phone (2a) Plus, and CMF Phone 1. This expanded compatibility aims to broaden the phone’s appeal and usability across the U.S.
In Canada, Nothing is partnering with Best Buy to sell its new flagship, along with a new over-ear headphone model, Headphone (1), on retail channels for the first time. This represents a significant expansion into traditional retail for the company in the North American market.
While specifics remain under wraps until the official unveiling next month in London, Pei has hinted at premium materials, major performance upgrades, and enhanced software. He also suggested a price point around £800, potentially translating to approximately $1,000 in the U.S., positioning it against competitors like the iPhone 16 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S25+.
According to Counterpoint Research, Nothing’s shipment numbers for 2024 were in the “low-single-digit millions,” with India being its biggest market. Maurice Klaehne, a senior research analyst at the firm, noted that while Google and Motorola have made some progress in the U.S. premium device market, Samsung and Apple still dominate. He added that OnePlus, Pei’s former company, has low shipment volumes in the U.S., implying Nothing faces an uphill battle ahead in the North American market.
To date, Nothing has raised more than $250 million through multiple funding rounds, indicating significant investor confidence in the company’s vision and potential.
