Reed Hastings, Netflix Co-founder, Joins Anthropic’s Board of Directors

Reed Hastings, the co-founder of Netflix, has been appointed to the board of directors of Anthropic, a leading AI company, as announced on Wednesday. This move brings a seasoned Big Tech executive to Anthropic, positioning him alongside competitors like OpenAI in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Hastings’ extensive experience on the boards of major companies such as Netflix, Microsoft, Bloomberg, and Meta is expected to be invaluable as Anthropic transitions from a startup to a major industry player. His expertise will likely contribute to the company’s strategic growth and development.

The appointment was made by Anthropic’s Long-Term Benefit Trust, an independent entity within the company’s governance structure. This trust is designed to operate with financial impartiality, ensuring that Anthropic’s AI development aligns with the long-term benefit of humanity. The Long-Term Benefit Trust holds the authority to appoint and remove board members, reinforcing its commitment to ethical AI practices.

Hastings will be joining existing board members Dario and Daniela Amodei (Anthropic co-founders), investor Yasmin Razavi, and Jay Kreps, the CEO of Confluent.
