Report: Elon Musk’s Drug Use Ramped Up During 2024 Presidential Campaign
Elon Musk reportedly increased his drug use during the 2024 presidential campaign, a period in which he also donated approximately $270 million to support Donald Trump’s election efforts, according to sources who spoke to The New York Times. The report suggests that Musk’s substance use went beyond recreational purposes during this time.
The New York Times details that Musk’s drug consumption escalated over the past year. Sources indicated that he carried a medication box containing around 20 pills, including Adderall. Furthermore, his use of ketamine was reportedly so extensive that it began to affect his bladder.
Musk’s use of substances like ketamine, psychedelic mushrooms, and ecstasy has been previously documented and has allegedly caused concern among board members at companies he leads, including Tesla and SpaceX. The latter, as a major government contractor, is required to maintain a drug-free workplace. The Times report alleges that Musk received advance warnings regarding drug tests.
It remains unclear whether Musk’s reported drug use directly influenced his behavior, which has included incidents such as insulting cabinet members, doing the Nazi salute, and exhibiting jumbled speech during earnings calls and public appearances.
The report also highlights the connection between Musk’s growing alignment with right-wing politics and personal challenges, such as his custody dispute with the musician Grimes over their son, X.
Musk announced this week that he was concluding his involvement with the government and stepping away from political activities to concentrate on his business ventures. He is scheduled to hold a joint press conference with President Trump on Friday afternoon.
