Snapchat Launches Lens Studio iOS and Web Apps with AI for Easy AR Creation
Snap has expanded its AR creation tools with the launch of a standalone Lens Studio iOS app and a web tool, making it easier for anyone to create AR Lenses. The company made the announcement on Wednesday, emphasizing that these tools are designed to be accessible to users of all skill levels through text prompts and simple editing interfaces.
The Lens Studio app allows users to generate AI effects, incorporate their Bitmoji, and utilize trending templates to create personalized Lenses. This initiative marks a significant step in democratizing AR creation, previously limited to professional developers via a desktop application.
Snap notes that while the desktop application remains the primary tool for professionals, the new iOS app and web tool aim to empower a broader audience to engage with AR creation. The company highlighted the experimental nature of these tools, emphasizing their focus on user-friendly creation, publishing, and interaction with Snapchat Lenses.

“These are experimental new tools that make it easier than ever to create, publish, and play with Snapchat Lenses made by you,” Snap stated in a blog post. The company aims to empower users to generate AI effects, add Bitmoji, and express themselves through Lenses, regardless of their location or device.
With an existing ecosystem of over 400,000 professional AR developers, Snap is now focusing on attracting a broader audience interested in Lens creation. This move contrasts with actions like Meta’s shutdown of its Spark AR platform last year, highlighting Snap’s commitment to investing in AR technology.
In addition to expanding access to AR creation, Snap is also introducing advanced tools for professionals. Recently, the company released new Lens Studio tools that enable AR creators and developers to build Bitmoji games, featuring a turn-based system, a customizable Character Controller, and more.
