WhatsApp Officially Launches Dedicated iPad App with Enhanced Multitasking

WhatsApp has officially launched its long-awaited dedicated iPad app, Meta announced on Tuesday. This release marks a significant step forward, providing iPad users with a native experience optimized for the tablet environment. The new app supports video and audio calls with up to 32 participants, screen sharing, and seamless use of both front and back cameras.

Previously, iPad users were limited to the web version of WhatsApp through a browser. The dedicated app eliminates this workaround, offering a more integrated and feature-rich experience.

WhatsApp emphasizes that the iPad app is designed to take full advantage of iPadOS multitasking capabilities. Users can leverage features like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over to enhance productivity. For example, users can now participate in a WhatsApp call while simultaneously browsing the web or researching travel options. This eliminates the need to switch between apps, streamlining workflows.

The app is also optimized for use with iPad accessories such as the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, providing additional input and productivity options.

With the new iPad app, users can seamlessly sync their messages, calls, and media across their iPhone, Mac, and other devices. WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption ensures that personal communications remain private and secure across all synced devices.

The launch follows a subtle hint from WhatsApp’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, building anticipation for the release. The launch of the dedicated iPad app doesn’t come as a complete surprise, as Meta’s WhatsApp account on X (formerly Twitter) teased the news yesterday with a subtle tweet.

Interestingly, Instagram, another Meta-owned platform, is also reportedly developing a dedicated iPad app, potentially signaling a broader strategy to optimize key apps for tablet use. Instagram, one of Meta’s other apps, is reportedly working on an iPad app as well.

The WhatsApp iPad app is available for download now on the App Store.
