Yep, X Was Down Again: Users Report Widespread Outage on Elon Musk’s Platform
Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) experienced a significant outage on Friday, leaving users frustrated with widespread disruptions. Reports flooded in, corroborated by crowdsourced data from sites like Downdetector, indicating a major service interruption.
While the X website and app remained accessible, numerous features malfunctioned. TechCrunch staff observed firsthand that the algorithmic “For You” feed failed to load any content. Users took to other platforms to voice their complaints.
Reports indicated a variety of issues, including:
- Photos failing to load
- XMoney, the platform’s banking service, being non-functional
- Empty timelines
- Inability to publish posts
- Search functionality returning no results
One user posted a screenshot on X with the caption, “X: the nothing app” showing a blank screen See the Tweet Here.
Based on user reports, the outage appears to have begun around 4 p.m. ET on Friday and started resolving around the time of this report. This marks the second outage for X in just over a week, following a series of issues on May 22nd where messages wouldn’t load and timelines wouldn’t update. Read more about the previous outage.
While some features appeared to work intermittently or functioned on the mobile app but not on the desktop, users began reporting a restoration of service.
According to the X Developer API v2 status page, the service is still showing degraded status, indicating ongoing issues.
The outage occurred shortly after X began rolling out its new DM feature, XChat, into beta, following a pause on encrypted DMs for improvements. The company has not commented on whether these changes contributed to the outage. X no longer responds to press inquiries.
