Zoom CEO Eric Yuan Joins Klarna in Using AI Avatar for Quarterly Call

Following in the footsteps of Klarna’s CEO, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan has also deployed an AI avatar to address investors during a recent quarterly earnings call. This move signals a growing trend among tech leaders leveraging AI to enhance communication and engagement.

Yuan utilized his custom avatar via Zoom Clips, Zoom’s asynchronous video creation tool, for his initial comments during the call. This decision highlights the increasing integration of AI in corporate communications, aiming for efficiency and innovation.

“I am proud to be among the first CEOs to use an avatar in an earnings call,” Yuan’s avatar stated. “It is just one example of how Zoom is pushing the boundaries of communication and collaboration. At the same time, we know trust and security are essential. We take AI-generated content seriously and have built in strong safeguards to prevent misuse, protect user identity, and ensure avatars are used responsibly.”

Yuan has been a long-time advocate for using avatars in meetings and has previously expressed the company’s ambition to create digital twins of users. This vision aligns with similar initiatives, such as the CEO of Otter, an AI-powered transcription service, who is reportedly training his avatar to help manage workload.

Zoom has announced that the custom avatar add-on feature is now available to all users, marking a significant step in democratizing AI-driven communication tools.
