Alpaca Secures $52M Series C to Expand API Brokerage Platform
Alpaca, a developer of an API brokerage platform aimed at democratizing access to financial markets, has successfully raised $52 million in a Series C funding round. This investment will fuel the company’s mission to provide developers with the tools necessary to build and launch their own investment products. The round was led by Portage, with participation from existing investors including Spark Capital, Tribe Capital, and Pareto Ventures.
Founded in 2015, Alpaca offers a suite of APIs that allows developers to integrate brokerage services directly into their applications. This includes functionalities such as trading, account management, and market data. By abstracting away the complexities of regulatory compliance and infrastructure, Alpaca enables startups and established companies alike to focus on innovation and user experience.
“We believe that the future of finance is embedded, and developers are the key to unlocking this potential,” said Yoshi Yokokawa, co-founder and CEO of Alpaca, in a statement. “This funding will enable us to expand our platform, add new asset classes, and continue to empower developers to build the next generation of investment products.”
The company has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by increasing demand for embedded finance solutions. Alpaca’s API is used by a diverse range of clients, including fintech startups, robo-advisors, and traditional financial institutions looking to modernize their offerings. The platform supports trading in stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies, with plans to add more asset classes in the future.
According to Adam Felesky, co-founder and CEO of Portage, “Alpaca is at the forefront of the embedded finance revolution. Their API-first approach and commitment to empowering developers make them a valuable partner for anyone looking to build innovative investment products. We are excited to lead this funding round and support Alpaca’s continued growth.”
Alpaca intends to use the funds to expand its engineering and product teams, accelerate its international expansion, and further enhance its API platform. The company is also exploring opportunities to partner with other fintech companies to offer a more comprehensive suite of services to its clients.
The Series C round brings Alpaca’s total funding to over $120 million, positioning it as a major player in the API brokerage space. As the demand for embedded finance solutions continues to grow, Alpaca is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend and empower developers to shape the future of investing.
