Bluesky Briefly Suspended JD Vance’s Account After He Joined
JD Vance, the U.S. Vice President, experienced a brief suspension from Bluesky shortly after joining the platform on Wednesday evening. The suspension was triggered by Bluesky’s automated system, which mistook Vance’s account for an impersonation attempt. The account has since been reinstated and verified.
A Bluesky spokesperson explained the situation to TechCrunch, stating, “Vice President Vance’s account was briefly flagged by our automated systems that try to detect impersonation attempts, which have targeted public figures like him in the past. The account was quickly restored and verified so people can easily confirm its authenticity.”
The spokesperson extended a welcome to Vance, adding, “We welcome the Vice President to join the conversation on Bluesky.”
Vance’s initial activity on Bluesky involved commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision regarding a Tennessee law that addresses gender-affirming care for transgender minors. His first post reflected on the implications of this ruling.
