Google adds image-to-video generation capability to Veo 3

Google has officially announced the integration of image-to-video generation capabilities into its advanced AI video generator, Veo 3, accessible through the Gemini app. This marks a significant leap in AI-driven content creation, allowing users to transform static images into dynamic video clips with remarkable ease.

The tech giant had previously introduced this groundbreaking feature with its AI-powered video tool, Flow, which made its debut in May at Google’s annual I/O developer conference. Building on that foundation, the rollout to Veo 3 through the widely used Gemini app ensures broader access and utility for creators and enthusiasts alike.

Following its initial launch in May, Google has rapidly expanded the availability of Veo 3-powered video generation, making it accessible in over 150 countries as of last week. Currently, this innovative feature is exclusively available to subscribers of Google AI Ultra and Google AI Pro plans, who are allotted a generous limit of three video creations per day. It is important to note that this daily limit does not carry over, encouraging consistent engagement with the tool.

Generating a video is designed to be intuitive: users simply select the “Videos” option from the tool menu within the prompt box in the Gemini app and upload their chosen photo. For an enhanced experience, users can also describe the desired audio within the prompt, allowing Google’s AI to generate a synchronized soundscape for their video. Once the video is generated, it can be easily downloaded or shared across platforms.

Since its release seven weeks ago, the Veo 3 model has demonstrated immense popularity, with users collectively creating more than 40 million videos across both the Gemini app and the Flow tool. To maintain transparency and ensure responsible AI usage, all videos generated using the Veo 3 model will feature a visible “Veo” watermark. Additionally, an invisible SynthID digital watermark will be embedded, a proprietary Google AI tool designed to identify AI-generated digital artifacts. Earlier this year, Google also released a dedicated tool to help detect content containing SynthID, further reinforcing its commitment to responsible AI development.
