Quora’s Poe releases a developer API with access to a bouquet of AI models
Quora’s cutting-edge AI platform, Poe, has announced the release of a new developer API, granting effortless access to a diverse array of AI models and bots for integration into custom applications. This strategic move aims to empower developers by simplifying the process of leveraging advanced AI capabilities.
The new API is seamlessly integrated with Poe’s existing point-based subscription plans, eliminating the need for separate fees. Developers will consume points for each model call, with costs varying based on the complexity and type of AI task. For instance, generating a low-quality 1:1 aspect ratio, 1024 x 1024 image via GPT-4o would cost 328 points.
Poe offers a range of flexible subscription tiers to accommodate different usage needs: a $4.99 per month plan providing 10,000 points daily, a $19.99/month plan offering 1 million points monthly, a $49.99/month plan with 2.5 million points monthly, a $99.99/month plan for 5 million points monthly, and a premium $249.99/month plan that includes 12.5 million points per month.
For developers requiring additional capacity, points can be purchased at an economical rate of $30 for 1 million tokens. This flexible add-on system allows customers to acquire tokens in any desired dollar amount, offering unparalleled scalability.
The newly launched API is compatible with applications that utilize OpenAI-compatible chat completion APIs, enabling tools such as Cursor, Cline, Continue, and Roo to harness Poe’s extensive capabilities. The platform currently boasts access to over 100 diverse models spanning voice, text, image, and video generation, offering a comprehensive suite for various AI-driven applications.
This impressive collection of multimodal models includes industry-leading names like Imagen 4, GPT Image 1, Flux Kontext, Seedream 3.0, Veo 3, Runway Gen 4 Turbo, Kling 2.1, ElevenLabs, and Lyria, ensuring developers have access to top-tier AI powerhouses.
Looking ahead, Poe’s product lead for creators and developers, Gareth Jones, revealed plans for further enhancements. Future developments include allowing developers to integrate their private bots built on Poe through the API, along with improvements in key management for the API product. The company is also considering implementing budget management functionalities based on valuable developer feedback.
Beyond its robust API, Poe continues to cater to consumers with user-friendly tools. Earlier this year, the company introduced an intuitive way for users to create and share custom AI-powered applications. It also provides pre-built templates for easily setting up server bots, prompt bots, and image generation bots, democratizing AI creation for a broader audience.
