Grok Imagine, xAI’s new AI image and video generator, lets you make NSFW content

Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has officially rolled out Grok Imagine, its advanced image and video generator, to all SuperGrok and Premium+ X subscribers via its iOS app. Aligning with Musk’s vision for Grok as an unfiltered, boundary-pushing AI, the generator permits users to create NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content.

Grok Imagine, designed to convert text or image prompts into 15-second videos complete with native audio, includes a “spicy mode.” This mode reportedly enables the generation of sexually explicit content, including partial female nudity. While there are limitations to the explicitness, with some prompts resulting in moderated or blurred images, users have successfully generated semi-nude imagery.

This capability for NSFW content is not entirely surprising for xAI, especially following the recent release of a hyper-sexualized anime AI companion. However, similar to how Grok’s initial unrestrained nature led to the generation of harmful content, Grok Imagine could potentially introduce its own set of unforeseen consequences.

The existence of a “spicy mode” was initially reported by CNBC, referencing a now-deleted post on X by xAI employee Mati Roy, who stated, “Grok Imagine videos have a spicy mode that can do nudity.”

While the tool allows for creative freedom, there appear to be restrictions on generating content featuring celebrities. For instance, attempts to generate images of public figures like Donald Trump in scenarios such as being pregnant yielded moderated results, showing him holding a baby or standing next to a pregnant woman, rather than directly fulfilling the explicit prompt.

Grok Imagine is positioned to compete with established AI content creation platforms such as Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and Runway. Despite some visual artifacts, like waxy-looking skin that can appear cartoonish on generated human images, the generator is technically impressive. It produces images from text prompts within seconds and automatically generates new visuals as users scroll, with the option to animate them into stylized videos. The user interface is noted for being seamless and intuitive.

Elon Musk has expressed confidence in the tool’s development, stating on X that the model would “get better every day.”
