Amazon introduces a more affordable color screen Kindle
Amazon is expanding the accessibility of its innovative color screen Kindle by introducing a more affordable model. Following the successful debut of the Kindle Colorsoft last year, the e-commerce giant has launched a lower-cost variant, making the immersive visual reading experience available to a wider audience. The original Kindle Colorsoft was priced at $279.99; this new version, with a 16GB storage capacity instead of 32GB, is available for $249.99, offering a $30 discount.
The 7-inch Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, first introduced to enhance the popular Kindle e-reader with a more engaging visual experience, was particularly lauded for its utility in browsing digital comics, graphic novels, and for its ability to highlight text in various colors. It features an adjustable, glare-free display, promising up to eight weeks of battery life, and even offers a dark mode-like experience by allowing users to invert the text and background colors.
The newly introduced 16GB model retains the core strengths of its predecessor, including the high-contrast Colorsoft display, adjustable warm light, impressive battery life, and swift page turns. A significant bonus with this more affordable option is the inclusion of three months of Kindle Unlimited, providing access to an extensive library of over 4 million e-books, further enhancing its value proposition for avid readers.
However, potential buyers should note that this 16GB model streamlines some premium features found in the Signature Edition. It will not include the auto-adjusting front light, wireless charging capabilities, or the larger 32GB storage space. These omissions contribute to its more accessible price point while still delivering the essential color reading experience.
In addition to the new standard model, Amazon has also launched a Kindle Colorsoft Kids edition, priced at $269.99. This version is thoughtfully designed for younger readers, shipping with an illustrated cover and backed by a two-year guarantee for peace of mind. It also includes a year-long Amazon Kids+ subscription, which provides access to a wide array of age-appropriate books, games, videos, and apps.
The Kids edition integrates several features to foster reading development, such as a vocabulary builder and ‘Word Wise’ – a tool that assists children in learning new words. It also supports the OpenDyslexic font and offers Bluetooth connectivity, enabling children to listen to audiobooks, making reading a more inclusive and engaging activity.
