Character.AI, a prominent platform known for enabling users to create and interact with AI characters, is enhancing its mobile user experience by integrating a new social feed. This strategic move aims to foster a more connected community and facilitate content sharing among its rapidly growing user base, reflecting a broader trend of AI-native applications capitalizing on the prevalence of AI-generated content across social media.
The social feed, which first appeared on the company’s web platform in June, allows users to share various forms of content with others. This includes images, videos, and their custom-created AI chatbots. Users can also post snippets from their conversations with characters, share AI-generated images derived from their chat interactions, or even have their AI characters participate in live-streamed debates, creating dynamic and engaging content opportunities.
A key new capability introduced with the feed is the use of Character.AI’s generative video model, AvatarFX. This advanced technology enables users to create video clips using simple text prompts and images, which can then be shared directly on the feed. This integration empowers users to express their creativity through video, further enriching the platform’s content ecosystem.
“With our new Feed, the boundary between creator and consumer is disappearing. You can come to Feed for a lean-back experience and watch content from our amazing creators – but you can also take the story forward or create a new epic adventure,” stated Karandeep Singh, Character.AI’s CEO. His vision emphasizes the platform’s commitment to blurring lines between consumption and creation, encouraging users to actively participate and build upon existing content.
Character.AI’s move into social features aligns with industry shifts, where platforms are increasingly incorporating AI-generated media. Social media feeds are notably becoming “full of AI-generated videos,” a trend that AI-native apps are keen to embrace. For instance, the video-generation app Pika launched an invite-only application in July that enables users to create and post AI-generated videos, highlighting a growing user interest in tools that facilitate AI-driven content creation and sharing.
