Google’s AI Overviews have 2B monthly users, AI Mode 100M in the US and India
Google’s ambitious push into artificial intelligence continues to yield significant results, as revealed by Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai during the company’s Q2 2025 earnings call. Pichai shared compelling figures highlighting the widespread adoption of consumer-facing AI applications and features, underscoring Google’s growing influence in the AI landscape.
A standout achievement is the remarkable growth of Google Search’s AI Overviews. This feature, which provides an AI-generated summary of search results, has now reached an astonishing 2 billion monthly users across 200 countries and territories. This represents a substantial leap from the 1.5 billion users reported in May 2025, demonstrating an accelerated uptake of AI-powered search enhancements.
Beyond search, Google’s dedicated AI assistant, Gemini, has also seen impressive expansion, now boasting 450 million monthly active users. Pichai noted the strong engagement, stating, “We continue to see strong growth and engagement with daily requests growing over 50% from Q1,” indicating active user interaction and reliance on the Gemini platform.
Further solidifying its AI footprint, Google’s AI Mode – an innovative AI chat experience within Google Search designed for in-depth answers – has surpassed 100 million monthly active users. Currently available in the U.S. and recently expanded to India, AI Mode is still rolling out globally. The CEO also hinted at future enhancements, including the integration of the advanced research tool Deep Search and more personalized responses, promising an even richer user experience.
On the developer front, Google highlighted robust engagement with its AI models. More than 9 million developers are now building with Gemini, showcasing the platform’s utility and appeal for AI innovation. The creative community is also leveraging Google’s AI capabilities, with over 70 million videos produced using the Veo 3 AI model since May. Google Vids, a Veo-powered feature enabling text-to-video AI generation within Google Workspace, has quickly amassed nearly 1 million monthly active users, simplifying complex video creation.
Moreover, AI’s integration into productivity tools is evident, with over 50 million people utilizing AI-powered meeting notes in Google Meet, streamlining collaboration and information capture.
These statistics collectively paint a picture of surging consumer demand for AI features. Google reported that AI Overviews alone are driving over 10% more Google Search queries for the types of searches where they appear. This indicates that while the features are actively promoted, they are also generating additional user engagement.
Quantifying its overall platform growth, Google revealed a doubling of monthly tokens processed, from 480 trillion announced in May to a staggering 980 trillion. This exponential increase underscores the immense scale of AI operations underpinning Google’s services.
“We are seeing significant demand for our comprehensive AI product portfolio,” Pichai affirmed, attributing this success to Google’s “long-term investments… in our differentiated, full-stack approach to AI.” Despite these strong performance indicators, the company’s announcement of increased capital expenditure to fuel the ongoing AI race led to a negative reaction from investors, causing the stock to slip shortly after the earnings release, highlighting the market’s cautious view on long-term AI investments.
