Klarna’s AI Efficiency Drives Revenue Per Employee to Nearly $1M
Klarna is seeing massive gains from its push into artificial intelligence. The buy now, pay later giant is on track to hit nearly $1 million in revenue per employee, fueled by the efficiencies gained from its internally developed AI systems and powered by OpenAI.
The company has aggressively embraced AI, ending its contract with Salesforce CRM and scaling back hiring, allowing AI to handle tasks previously done by human employees.
Klarna’s latest financials reveal that its reliance on AI is significantly boosting efficiency. Revenue per employee is projected to reach $1 million, a substantial increase from $575,000 per worker the previous year, according to the company’s latest financials. The most significant financial impact has been a notable reduction in customer service costs.
Last year, Klarna announced plans to replace nearly 700 full-time customer service contractors with AI chatbots. However, the company recently announced that customers would once again have the option to speak with a human agent to address customer concerns.
In March, Klarna filed paperwork for its anticipated U.S. IPO. However, the company postponed its IPO plans last month, citing stock market volatility triggered by President Trump’s tariff announcement.
Despite a 13% revenue increase to $701 million in Q1 2025, Klarna has not provided a new timeline for its IPO.
