Leak reveals Grok might soon edit your spreadsheets

In a significant development that could reshape the landscape of AI-powered productivity tools, leaked code suggests xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, is actively developing an advanced file editor for its Grok AI, complete with robust spreadsheet support. This revelation signals xAI’s aggressive push to directly challenge established giants like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft by deeply embedding AI copilots into essential productivity workflows.

The leak, uncovered by renowned reverse engineer Nima Owji, highlights a future where users can seamlessly interact with Grok while actively modifying documents. “You can talk to Grok and ask it to assist you at the same time you’re editing the files!” Owji stated on X, sharing visual evidence of the finding.

While xAI has yet to officially confirm these findings, the move aligns with the company’s recent strategic announcements. In April 2025, xAI introduced Grok Studio, a dual-panel workspace designed to facilitate collaboration with Grok on tasks ranging from document generation to code and browser game development. Furthermore, the company launched Workspaces, enabling users to centralize and organize files and conversations, laying the groundwork for a more integrated AI experience.

This initiative places Grok in direct competition with similar offerings from tech behemoths.
