TikTok adds YouTube Music as an option to save songs playing in videos
TikTok continues to enhance its music integration features, today announcing the addition of YouTube Music as a direct option for users to save songs heard within video clips. This new feature streamlines the process for millions of users to transfer discovered tracks from the short-form video platform to their preferred music streaming service.
The popular social media platform first introduced this highly anticipated functionality in November 2023, initially supporting Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music for users in the U.S. and U.K. Building on its success, TikTok rapidly expanded the feature’s availability in February 2024, rolling it out to over 160 countries worldwide. Since then, the service has progressively added more streaming partners, including Deezer and SoundCloud, further diversifying options for its global user base.
Utilizing the new integration is straightforward: users can simply tap the “Add Song” button, conveniently located below the clip description next to the track name. From there, they can select YouTube Music as their saving destination. For added convenience, users can set their preferred music streaming service as the default, or easily switch between options via the “Music” menu within TikTok’s Settings.
Once a song is added, it will automatically appear in a dedicated “TikTok Songs” playlist within the user’s YouTube Music library, making it easy to revisit and enjoy their discoveries.
Tracy Gardner, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, highlighted the significant impact of this initiative, stating, “Add to Music App continues to deliver real results for the music industry, with hundreds of millions of track saves translating into billions of streams on music streaming services.” This underscores TikTok’s growing role as a powerful discovery engine for music, benefiting both artists and streaming platforms by bridging the gap between viral moments and sustained listenership.
This strategic expansion to include YouTube Music solidifies TikTok’s commitment to providing a seamless and comprehensive music experience, further empowering users to effortlessly curate their personal soundtracks from the vast array of content on the platform.
