VSCO’s iPhone camera app is now available globally

In a significant expansion for photographers worldwide, VSCO, the renowned photo editing and sharing platform, has announced the global availability of its dedicated iPhone camera application, Capture. This follows a successful limited launch in June across Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, making its advanced suite of photographic tools accessible to a much wider audience.

Complementing this global rollout, VSCO has also confirmed the strategic acquisition of The Freelance Photographer. This specialized entity offers comprehensive online and offline workshops dedicated to advancing photography and videography skills, signaling VSCO’s deepened commitment to supporting the professional development of creatives.

Eric Wittman, CEO of VSCO, articulated the rationale behind the acquisition in a recent statement: “There’s a clear gap in the market for business education and industry-specific guidance for emerging photography professionals who are looking to secure sustainable client relationships. The Freelance Photographer serves as a long-term career partner to creatives, offering a comprehensive education, a supportive community, as well as the tools and insight they need to turn their craft into a career.” This move underscores VSCO’s vision to empower photographers not just with tools for creation, but also with resources for sustainable careers.

The Capture app, VSCO’s first new application in over a decade, is meticulously designed for capturing images with a distinct aesthetic. It boasts an impressive array of features, including more than 50 presets for immediate image enhancement and real-time effects. Professionals and enthusiasts alike will appreciate its manual controls over crucial camera functions such as shutter speed and exposure. Furthermore, Capture supports shooting in high-quality RAW and ProRAW formats, and seamlessly syncs all photos with VSCO’s secure cloud service, ensuring creative work is always accessible and backed up.

The Freelance Photographer’s offerings range from a basic coaching plan priced at $208 per month to a premium tier at $625 per month. The latter provides subscribers with access to over 50 specialized tools, a wide array of courses, and invaluable personal mentoring from the company’s founder, Paul Weaver. This comprehensive educational suite is set to become an integral part of VSCO’s ecosystem, further cementing its position as a holistic resource for photographers.

This acquisition seamlessly integrates with VSCO’s ongoing strategy to cater more extensively to professional photographers. Over the past year, the company has introduced several initiatives aimed at fostering growth and connectivity within the creative community. These include VSCO Hub, a platform designed to connect brands with photographers for various projects, and VSCO Sites, which enables photographers to effortlessly create personalized web pages to showcase their portfolios. More recently, in May, VSCO launched VSCO Canvas, an AI-powered collaborative whiteboard product facilitating the creation of dynamic moodboards for diverse creative ventures.
