Hugging Face Unveils HopeJR and Reachy Mini: Open Source Humanoid Robots for AI Development

Hugging Face, a leading AI development platform, has expanded its reach into robotics with the introduction of two new open-source humanoid robots: HopeJR and Reachy Mini. This move underscores the company’s commitment to democratizing access to advanced robotics technology.

HopeJR is a full-sized humanoid robot featuring 66 actuated degrees of freedom, enabling a wide range of movements including walking and arm manipulation. Designed to be accessible, HopeJR aims to lower the barrier to entry for robotics research and development.

Reachy Mini, on the other hand, is a desktop-sized robot designed for testing AI applications. It can move its head, talk, and listen, making it a versatile tool for developers looking to integrate AI into robotic systems.

While an exact shipping timeline is not yet available, Hugging Face anticipates starting to ship the first units by the end of the year. A waitlist is currently open for those interested in acquiring these robots.

The estimated cost for HopeJR is around $3,000 per unit, while Reachy Mini is expected to be priced between $250 and $300, subject to potential tariff adjustments. These price points reflect Hugging Face’s dedication to making robotics accessible to a wider audience.

Clem Delangue, co-founder and CEO of Hugging Face, emphasized the importance of open source and affordability in robotics. He stated that open source allows anyone to assemble, rebuild and understand how the robots work. He also added that affordability ensures that robotics is not dominated by a few big players with dangerous black-box systems.

The release of these robots was facilitated by Hugging Face’s acquisition of humanoid robotics startup Pollen Robotics. The Pollen team brought new capabilities to Hugging Face, enabling the development of HopeJR and Reachy Mini.

Hugging Face’s push into robotics includes the launch of LeRobot, a collection of open AI models, datasets, and tools for building robotic systems, launched in 2024. This platform underscores the company’s commitment to advancing AI-driven robotics.

In 2025, Hugging Face released an updated version of its 3D-printed robotic arm, the SO-101, in partnership with The Robot Studio. The company has also expanded the training data on its LeRobot platform to include data for self-driving machines through a partnership with AI startup Yaak.
