Nintendo Increases Original Switch Console Prices Amidst Shifting Market Conditions
Nintendo has announced a price adjustment for its original Nintendo Switch consoles, with the increases set to take effect on August 3. The company cited prevailing “market conditions” as the reason for the hike, a move that observers suggest is likely linked to evolving global trade policies, including recent tariff adjustments.
The price increases will affect several Nintendo Switch models, including the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, the standard Nintendo Switch, and the Nintendo Switch Lite. Select Nintendo Switch accessories will also see price changes. Furthermore, certain accessories for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, alongside specific amiibo figures and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, are slated for price adjustments.
At present, Nintendo has not disclosed the specific new retail prices for the affected consoles and accessories. The original Nintendo Switch currently retails for $299.99, with the OLED model priced at $349.99. The company also indicated that a future price adjustment for the Nintendo Switch 2, which currently retails for $450, is not being ruled out, though pricing for the system, its games, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships will remain unchanged for the time being.
This pricing update comes shortly after Nintendo released its fiscal first-quarter earnings. The company reported strong performance for the Nintendo Switch 2, with sales reaching 5.82 million units since its launch on June 5. To mitigate the impact of tariffs, Nintendo had previously moved a significant portion of its production from China to Vietnam. However, recent modifications to reciprocal tariffs now extend to Vietnam, potentially influencing these cost considerations.
