Opera’s New Browser ‘Neon’ Uses AI to Code Websites and Games

Opera has unveiled its new browser, Opera Neon, designed with a strong focus on AI-driven workflows. This browser aims to assist users in various tasks, including shopping, form completion, and even coding websites and games.

Currently, Opera Neon is accessible via a waitlist. Opera plans to move to a subscription-based model upon full release. However, pricing details have yet to be disclosed.

Opera Neon’s interface features three distinct buttons on its sidebar: Chat, Do, and Make. The Chat button initiates a chatbot interface that allows users to search the web, receive answers to questions, and request additional information about the webpages they are currently browsing.

The ‘Do’ function leverages Opera’s Browser Operator AI agent, previously announced in March. This agent is designed to handle tasks such as filling out forms or managing travel bookings directly within the browser.

The ‘Make’ option stands out, as Opera claims it enables users to generate games, websites, code snippets, reports, and more using text prompts. According to Opera, the AI workflows driving this feature operate through a virtual machine in the cloud. This setup allows Neon to continue working on tasks even when the user is offline and supports running multiple tasks simultaneously.

While the concept is promising, the actual performance of AI applications sometimes falls short of expectations. Opera is not alone in exploring AI agents for browsers. The Browser Company previewed an AI-powered browser last December, aiming to delegate tasks to AI agents. Google is also developing projects to use AI agents for search results and task completion.
