Snapchat Adds New Features for Creators, Including Easier Video Editing
Snapchat is rolling out a suite of new tools and features aimed at simplifying content creation and sharing for its users, as the platform continues to compete with Instagram and TikTok. The updates include a “Timeline Editor,” a new way to create videos from Memories, auto-saving Stories to profiles, and enhanced insights for creators.
The “Timeline Editor” is designed to provide a more intuitive video editing experience directly within the Snapchat app. Creators can now view their video clips in chronological order, making it easier to trim, move, and rearrange them. The editor also supports the addition of Lenses, music from the Sounds library, and other creative tools. This feature aims to reduce reliance on third-party video editing apps like CapCut for simple edits before posting on Snapchat.
Snapchat is also introducing a “Create a Video” template. This allows users to select Memories, choose a song from Snapchat’s Sounds library, and pick a favorite template to generate a custom compilation video. This feature is currently rolling out globally on iOS.

Snapchat is also introducing the option to automatically save public Stories directly to user profiles, allowing visitors to revisit content. This feature enables creators to build a collection of their best moments and extend the life of their content, a move away from the platform’s traditionally ephemeral nature.
To further empower creators, Snapchat is providing more detailed insights into content performance. Creators can now see the number of viewers who watched their public content for at least 12 days over the past month, providing insight into returning viewership. They will also have access to data on which Spotlight posts and public Stories received the most views in the last 28 days, along with the total view time across all content.
Additionally, Snapchat will provide insights into traffic sources, breaking down views by origin, including the Discover For You page, Following, Spotlight, Search, Chat, and Profile. Creators will also see the average watch time for their Spotlight posts and the average percentage of Spotlight posts watched to completion.
