TikTok Introduces Meditation Feature to Help Users Unwind and Sleep
TikTok is rolling out a new in-app guided meditation feature aimed at improving sleep quality and encouraging users, especially teens, to disconnect from the app at night. The social network began testing the meditation exercises with a select group of teenagers earlier this year and is now making the feature available to all users.
The primary goal of this feature is to combat late-night scrolling and help users wind down before bed. For users under 18, the meditation feature will be enabled by default. Teens using the app after 10 p.m. will encounter a guided meditation exercise designed to help them relax.
This meditation includes a calming screen, soft music, and breathing exercises to promote relaxation. If a teen dismisses the initial prompt and continues using the app, a second full-screen reminder will encourage them to go to sleep.
TikTok has been actively introducing new safety measures for its younger users in recent years, addressing concerns about the app’s potential impact on their well-being. The new meditation feature represents the company’s ongoing commitment to user safety and mental health.
Adult users who are interested in using the meditation feature can manually enable it through the app’s Screen Time settings. By toggling on the “sleep hours” feature, users can set a specific time to trigger the meditation exercise each night.
In addition to the new meditation feature, TikTok announced a donation of $2.3 million in ad credits to 31 mental health organizations across 19 countries. This donation is part of TikTok’s Mental Health Education Fund, underscoring its dedication to supporting mental health initiatives globally.
This move from TikTok highlights the increasing awareness and effort from social media platforms to promote digital well-being and responsible usage, especially among younger demographics.
