Waymo and Uber Offer Early Access to Atlanta Robotaxi Service

Waymo and Uber are rolling out early access to their robotaxi service in Atlanta for select customers who signed up on a waitlist earlier this year. This initiative precedes the official public launch of the robotaxi service slated for this summer.

Customers chosen for early access are being notified through the Uber app and via email. These riders are encouraged to provide feedback during and after their robotaxi experience. As an added incentive, participants will receive $10 in Uber credits following their inaugural Waymo ride.

Atlanta marks the second city to feature the “Waymo on Uber” service, following its debut in Austin this spring. This service allows users to connect with a Waymo vehicle through the Uber app.

Uber and Waymo initially announced plans last September to introduce a robotaxi service in Austin and Atlanta by early 2025 as part of an expanded collaboration. The partnership exclusively allows Uber users to hail Waymo’s fleet of autonomous Jaguar I-PACE vehicles.

Similar to Waymo’s launches in other cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco, the service area in Atlanta will expand over time. Currently, Waymo and Uber are offering robotaxi rides within a 65-square-mile area, encompassing downtown, Buckhead, and Capitol View neighborhoods.

The “Waymo on Uber” service operates on a collaborative model. Uber is responsible for the charging, maintenance, and cleaning of the autonomous vehicles, along with managing robotaxi access through its app. Meanwhile, Waymo oversees the technology and autonomous operations, including rider assistance.
